By appointment with the Rector or in her absence, the Rev James Mulhall . Where a neighbouring Rector is left in charge during the day, calls should only be directed to him/her if it is an actual emergency. A message should be left on Rev James telephone if the matter can wait until after work hours. (arrangements for a funeral some days away) It is the Rev James duty to arrange events such as emergency Baptisms and Funeral Services in my absence.

Bible Club –

At this point, three youth workers have been trained, two have been vetted by the Gardai and, as we now have a complete Panel again, interviews will take place and appointments can be made. In the meantime, I will be meeting with the three volunteers to plan a proper programme for the future.

Sunday School Training –

Holy Trinity, Fethard –

At the moment, we are awaiting advice on what type of heating system would be most suitable to heat this large church. The plan is to have a system installed and up and running for the coming Autumn and Winter. We have explored a number of options and we hope to have a decision very shortly.

Safeguarding Trust –

The latest newsletter explains who should be contacted by the Parish Panel in the event of an incident or suspicion of an incident of abuse of minors coming to the knowledge of the Parish Panel.

The members of the Parish Panel in this parish are :
The Rector: Tel 052 6187464/086-2750735
Mrs Suzanne Mulhall: Tel 051 646984
Mr John Chamney

The Select Vestry appointed John to this position at its meeting on 24th February 2010.

If you suspect that a child (anybody under 18 years of age) has/is being abused on Church property, the appropriate action is to speak to a member of the Panel who will then follow the appropriate procedure.

Sustentation/Assessment –

In order to ensure that monies given by parishioners are used for the purpose for which they are given, from now, all donations/subscriptions to this fund will be put into a separate account. The direct result of this is that our cashflow will be tight and parishioners should buy nothing, in the name of the parish, before first checking with the Treasurer or Rector. The effects of having everything in one account has been seen in the last while when we have found ourselves short in the payment of our Sustentation/Assessment because monies for that purpose we were used to pay for day-to-day spending.

Tree Felling at Old St. Mary’s Clonmel –

A number of trees in the churchyard were either felled or reduced in height recently as they were deemed to be dangerous – permission was granted by the RCB and they were not protected. Where possible, Church guidelines have a preference for leaving “substantial stumps” which will produce some growth, than for clear-felling.

St. Mary’s Parochial School (sometimes called “The Model School)

(Content extracted from the school newsletter)
During the past month, the Rector gave a series of art classes on Wednesday afternoon, Simon Brennan, David Johnston and Lugvic, a French exchange student staying with the Johnstons came into school had taught some soccer skills. The annual parent/teacher meetings took place. In Science class, Mandy and the pupils played with tornado tubes that were made last year.
As part of the project to gain our second Green Flag, the seniors visited Tesco and learned a lot. Projects for the last month included topics such as “Cats”, “Farm Animals”. “Books” and other interesting subjects. Pastor Brennan of the Baptist Church arrived for his talk laden with lectern, Bible and towel! He answered a lot of tricky questions masterfully.
The newsletter is edited by Timothy Brennan and Andrew Duncan. Well done, boys!

St. Paul’s, Cahir –

The redecoration is completed and the result is stunning! About 80 people attend the Service of Thanksgiving on 21st February and enjoyed refreshments afterwards in the Charteris /Butler Hall. Thank-you to those who have given interest-free loans to enable the contractor to be paid – your generosity is much appreciated. Application has been sent to the Marshall Beresford Fund and the Church Fabric Fund for some assistance with the cost. Thank-you to those who helped arrange the Service and who participated in it and to those who provided the refreshments.

Presbyterian Minister –

The new Presbyterian Minister for Fermoy/Cahir will be installed in the Presbyterian Church, Cahir on Saturday, 20th March. His name is the Rev David Montgomery and we have sent him a message of welcome.

List of Vestrymen –

This is the register, which is updated every year, and entitles those
who are over 18 years and members of the Church of Ireland or a Church of the Anglican Communion or of a Church in full Communion with the Church of Ireland t(ie. Lutheran Churches that have signed the Porvoo Agreement) to vote at the General Easter Vestry and to be elected to membership of the Select Vestry and an officer of that body. A declaration is required. If you wish to sign the declaration, please let the Rector know.

Repairs at Old St. Mary’s Clonmel –

The re roofing of the porch and “old vestry” will begin on Monday, 1st March 2010. Please follow any signs that may be put in place to direct you by the safest pathway to the church entrance. The work should be completed within three weeks.

Confirmation 2010

Our seven candidates have made a very good beginning to their preparation for Confirmation. It appears that there may not be any candidates in either Lismore or Fiddown parishes, if that is the case the Confirmation Service will take place in Old St. Mary’s on Sunday, 27th June @ 3.00pm – a little uncertain, but we hope we will have the opportunity to celebrate this landmark in the young peoples’ lives in their own parish.
