Confirmation -

Confirmation Service will take place in Old St. Mary’s on Sunday, 27th June @ 3.00pm - It is hoped that all parishioners will regard this occasion as a very important day in the history of our parish and will be there in force to hear and see the candidates make their vows and be confirmed by Bishop Michael. There will be no other services in the parish on that day.

Rev James’ Appointment -

The Rev James has been appointed Curate of Lismore Group of Parishes from 1st August 2010. James is completing his studies at the moment. I had hoped that we might have him with us a little longer, but it was always on the cards that he would choose to respond to a calling to full time ministry. We could not afford the stipend for a curate. We wish him, Suzanne and Jacob every blessing in this new chapter in their lives. Our loss is very much Lismore’s gain! After the 1st August, I shall be alone in providing ministry in this Union of Parishes and I will need your support more than ever. I hope to be able to continue the present complement of worship with help from diocesan readers Sunday by Sunday.

Sustentation/Assessment –

In order to ensure that monies given by parishioners are used
for the purpose for which they are given, from now, all donations/subscriptions to this fund will be put into a separate account.
The due date for our having the monies in the diocesan account by 31st December means that many find it very difficult to write cheques or make donations to the live ministry coming up to Christmas. You may make a donation t any time that suits you, it will be recorded and you will receive an account of your giving for the year early in 2011 and you will be credited with making your donation in parish records. If your donations for any year are over €250, you may take part in the tax relief scheme, which further benefits the parish – ask the Rector or treasurer for details.

Ordinations –

The Revds Ivan Dungan, Ruth West & Christine O’Dowd Smyth will be ordained priest 30th May in Waterford Cathedral – The Bishop will ordain Alex Purser, Carlow Group of Parishes deacon on 20th June in Abbeyleix to serve in that parish. Please pray for all of them and for Jim &Brendan, from our diocese, who are at present studying in our Theological Institute.

Whist Drives –

The last of the season will take place in the Sisters’ of Charity School
hall on Friday, 9th April 2010 @ 7.45pm – New comers always made welcome!

Repairs at Old St. Mary’s –

The roofs of the porch and old vestry tower have now been re-roofed and a number of other problems in those areas put to rights. Thank-you Duncan & Ken for your over-seeing this project.

Coffee Time –

Saturday, 17th April- This will be a “drop – in” type of morning and new faces are beginning to appear!! Your are invited – all of you – to drop into the Rectory on between 10.00am – 12.30pm. The idea is to facilitate parishioners meeting each other over a cup of tea or coffee. There will be a biscuit and, if your lucky, maybe a scone and jam! There will be a jam-jar for anybody who might like to make a donation to the Hall Restoration Fund – no obligation! This invitation includes all of all ages

Holy Trinity, Fethard –

We are now awaiting quotations for heating systems. The situation of the church within the town walls has prevented us from having much choice in the system of heating we might have hoped to use.

Bible Club –

At this point, three youth workers have been trained, two have been vetted by
the Gardai and, as we now have a complete Panel again, interviews will take place and appointments can be made. In the meantime, I will be meeting with the three volunteers soon to plan a proper programme for the future.

Palm Sunday –

There were palm crosses for everybody at all of our Services and we hear the Passion of our Lord read. But in Old St. Mary’s, the children had their own Palm Sunday procession and read a dramatised version of the Passion beautifully. I have always hoped that we could involve all children in the parish in the 4th Sunday Service. We made a good beginning in this on Palm Sunday. The Confirmation candidates, children from our school and others who attend other schools within the parish boundaries were involved this March. Miss Wallace, our principal, has offered to help include more children in this service – I texted as many of you as I could about a fortnight before the service and was very pleased with the response I got. I don’t have mobile numbers for all of you – text me and you will be included!!!

Wordsearch –

This month’s is enclosed –entries may be handed into the office at Old St. Mary’s to Liz
Last month’s winners were:
1st Prize – George Hogg
2nd Prize – John Daniels
3rd Prize – Lorna Armstrong
Special Draw – Eileen Clooney

St. Mary’s Parochial School

(sometimes called “The Model School)
School has been a very busy place during the last month. The pupils spent a considerable amount of time preparing their posters for the Bishop’s competition – the subject this year was “The Holy Spirit”; a difficult subject, especially for those in the junior room – but, the results were exciting and absolutely stunning!! Well done teachers and children!
Marjorie Lamb, a member of the Society of Friends, came to school to talk about her Church. She brought her mother’s bonnet and photographs of her school in Ohio, USA. The children were allowed try the bonnet on,were intrigued by the smallness of her school and of her school friends. There were lots of questions for her to answer. Thank-you, Marjorie!

World Day of Prayer –

This service took place in the Church of the Resurrection on Friday, 5th March. There was a much larger participation by all the churches within the Clonmel parishes and there was a very good attendance. The clergy gave their full support to the evening. Brid Greene, St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s put a tremendous amount of work into organising the service and was thrilled by the enthusiasm and willingness on the part of so many to do their bit. The congregation was treated to refreshments after the service.

Wedding planning Booklets -

Booklets outlining the procedures necessary to planning a wedding in our churches are being placed in each of our churches – please feel free to take one.

Presbyterian Minister –

The Rector and the Rev Arthur attended the ordination of the Rev William Montgomery to serve in Fermoy and Cahir.
We welcome him and his family to the area.

Sunday Life –

“ Sunday Life” is Tipp Fm’s spiritual slot on Sunday mornings at 7.00am.
A team of clergy present a programme which consists of music, a reading and a short meditation.

St. Paul’s, Cahir –

The furniture sale in aid of paying off the loans taken out to fund the
redecoration of St. Paul’s went very well –The proceeds stand at €1,244 at the moment, with some more money to come. . Thank-you everybody who supported this event. And thank-you Rev Arthur & Hilary for all your efforts in organising the event.

The next effort to raise further funds, “Summer Colours” , will take place in Kilcoran Lodge Hotel on 19th May 2010 – This will be a demonstration by Mary on making your summer window boxes patio containers and hanging baskets and she will answer your questions – Admission €10.

Bereavement –

We extend our sincere sympathy to the Rev Arthur Carter and his family
on the death of his sister, Rebecca, at an advanced age. A funeral service took place in her home parish church, Irishtown, Dublin and at St. Mary’s Church, Ballintemple (Dundrum, Co. Tipperary). She was laid to rest in the family plot.
