Singing Group –

Fridays, 5th, 19th November @ 8.00pm in Old St. Mary’s Church of Ireland, Clonmel. New voices are always welcome –whether you want to sit near the organ or not! We practise well known hymns etc and learn new ones.

Bereavements –

Our sympathy goes to the Dowling family, Cahir on the death of a beloved daughter & sister during the summer.
Old St. Mary’s was filled by family and friends for the funeral service for Diana Christian Isabella Watson who died peacefully after a life lived to the full and in quiet & Christian service to her fellow human beings on 14th October. The service & burial were conducted by the Rector & the Dean of Cashel, her Rector. She was laid to rest with her husband, Sidney, at Inishlounaght. The her children, John and Sandra, and their families we offer our sincere sympathy.

May the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.

Training in Reading & Helping in Worship –

There was a small attendance at the session on 22nd October – we did some practise with the microphones and had a discussion about Holy Communion – The next session is on Friday, 26th November @ 7.30pm – This is for everybody and will include learning to use the microphone to best advantage. At Old St. Mary's, Church of Ireland, Clonmel

Select Vestry Meeting –

Our next meeting is on Thursday, 18th November 2010 in Old St. Mary’s Church, Clonmel @ 8.00pm. Please ring in your apology in advance if you can’t attend, not to is really not good manners and where a quorum does not attend results in those who do attend to have made a journey in vain. .A full attendance is expected.

Sunday, 5th December –

The bishop will celebrate Holy Communion in two churches in the parish on this day; not necessarily churches which would normally have Holy Communion on the 1st Sunday of the month – when the Bishop visits, he always celebrates ; it is his duty. There is no need for special arrangements as he shares with the rector in the stewardship of each parish.
I will know where he intends visiting in the coming weeks.

He and the Rector will go to St. Hugh’s, Kilvemnon after lunch on that day to remove the consecration from that church.

Clonmel Town Walls –

The work on Clonmel Town Walls at Old St. Mary’s has been completed and there is much improvement in their appearance.

Flowers & Cleaning Rotas–

The response to our appeal for the setting up of a cleaning rota and filling the flower rota at Old St. Mary’s, Clonmel has been really good. We have a few vacancies – and really the more the merrier because the amount needing to be done by each person will be less – if you have not volunteered, please do so! Participation does give a better sense of belonging and encourages everybody to work better for their Church.

Congratulations –

To Adam Clooney on gaining his BSc.

Confirmation 2011 –

The bishop has set the dates for next year’s Confirmation Services. We will be part of the service planned for Sunday, 21st May 2011 in Lismore Cathedral. One person has indicated their desire to be confirmed so far. Please give the Rector a ring or speak to her after Church soon – we will need to begin classes immediately after Christmas. If you are in 6th class or older (it’s never too late) and have not been confirmed ask now! – if you have not been baptised & would like to be and then conformed , just have a word with me!!

St. Mary’s Parochial School (Model School) s News–

The senior classroom did some safe cycling. It was very exciting and fun. We got a little bit wet, but we still had fun. We went over a ramp\see-saw, we did an obstacle course which in involved going in and out of some cones, the limbo and turning.

The cross country running in Marlfield is took place on Wednesday 11th of October.

Dave from the FAI has started soccer training with the senior room and will be coming for the next few weeks.

The junior classroom having been learning handling skills in P.E. and their throwing and catching is improving.

Canon Fryday came in and painted a lovely picture of the burning bush and the leaves were still green and the bark was still brown.

The senior classroom made Halloween costumes, it was really fun. We did some science projects, it was exciting.

The senior classroom went to the library because there was a story teller called Séan Ó Laoire there. We also went to the musical “Guys and Dolls” which two past students (Lauren Quigley and Ruari Doyle) were in, it was brilliant.

We are wondering if anyone would like some girl gerbils which Ellen owns. Contact c/o the school.

I will be putting the programme for Holy Week & Easter together during the coming weeks.

4th Sunday –

This has concentrated very much on the children in the Parochial School for practical reasons. We do need to include the other children in the parish, so, in conjunction with planning the Kid’s Club, the inclusion of all children in the parish will be a particular focus.
I need some help with this – perhaps parents might furnish me with their mobile/email details and we can start from there – email would work better as it would be more interactive. Come on, get involved for your childrens’ sake – if we do nothing else we will ensure that everybody knows everybody else! Looking forward to getting a flood of emails!!

St. Canice’s Cathedral –

The Rector has been appointed Treasurer of the Chapters of St.Canice’s Cathedral & of St Laserian’s Cathedral, Leighlin. It is usual for members of the Chapter to preach in the cathedrals from time to time. This has not happened in St Canice’s for quite some time. The new Dean Katherine Poulton has put this back in place and my preaching Sunday is to be the 4th Sunday in February.

Diocesan Magazines –

Eleven publications appear every year and cost €30 for that period.
Each parish has a section and it is a great way to keep up with happening in the wider Church & the diocese. If you would like to receive it, contact the Rector with your €30 before 20th November 2010. Two “spares” are always available as “tasters” for those considering subscribing.

Dendrochronolgy –

Queen’s University, Belfast, have received permission to remove a small portion of the old roof timbers, which remain under the present roof of Holy Trinity, Fethard, in order to verify a previous inspection which dated the timbers at 1500AD. Permission was granted by the RCB; the legal owners of the building. This work will take place provided a Heritage Grant is obtained.

Concert Cancellations -

The concerts planned for Old St. Mary’s & Holy Trinity on 20th & 21st November have been postponed because of the cost for the performers to travel, with their instruments, from Germany. Thank-you to Jens & Nadja Buchwald for their hard work in trying to find a way for these events to take place. We hope it may happen in the future.

“Stella Days” –

During the next few weeks a low budget film will be shot in Fethard about a dispute between the parish priest of Borrisokane, Co. Tipperary, and his bishop in the 1950s over the priest’s introduction of a cinema in that small town. Holy trinity Church will be transformed, temporarily, into Borrisokane RC Church for the purposes of the film. Martin Sheen, who has roots in Borrisokane will star. During the filming, worship will continue on Sundays in the church as usual.
